Founder and President
Thomas Essaye, with over 10 years of experience trading various assets, is a professional trader specializing in foreign and domestic equities, commodities, currencies, and bonds. As the founder and president of Sevens Report Research, Tom Essaye has established himself as a prominent figure in the industry.
His career began on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, where he traded multi-million-dollar orders for major mutual funds and hedge funds while working for Merrill Lynch’s Institutional Equity Trading division.
In 2005, Tom left the NYSE floor to co-found a global macro hedge fund, focusing on commodities and natural resource equities. He oversaw all trading execution and led the fund’s research and analysis team.
The fund achieved remarkable success by investing in precious metals, agricultural commodities, energy, and natural resource-related equities. Early positions were taken in gold below $500/oz., silver below $7/oz., corn below $2/bushel, and undervalued equities like Silver Wheaton, Newmont Mining, Cameco, and EOG Resources. The fund expanded its investments in mining and resource companies in Canada and Australia as the sector experienced growth in the mid-2000s. International equities constituted half of the fund’s exposure.
In 2007, Tom recognized the potential of shale drilling and heavily allocated investments to natural gas producers and energy service companies specializing in fracking and horizontal drilling.
During his tenure as a money manager, Tom faced the challenge of information overload, common among investment managers and financial advisors. This led him to launch the Sevens Report, providing accurate, unbiased, and concise market analysis.
Today, Sevens Report Research is widely read by thousands of financial professionals. Tom’s mission is to decipher daily market moves, enabling advisors, brokers, traders, and self-directed investors to make better investment decisions based on superior research and analysis.
Tom Essaye has garnered a national reputation for his straightforward and no-nonsense perspective on the market. He is a frequent guest on CNBC, Fox Business, and Yahoo Finance, and his insights are sought after by major publications such as the Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, USA Today, Seeking Alpha, NASDAQ, and Bloomberg. He holds a degree from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from the University of Florida.
