What Wall Street can expect from this week’s Trump-Xi summit

Tom Essaye, founder and president of the Sevens Report, said his team expects generally vague language and details about deals between the two countries, but from a catalyst standpoint, they will be watching two specific areas: tariffs and AI.

“Multinational industrials (think XLI) and large consumer names (think XLY) should be some of the bigger beneficiaries from an extension of the trade truce, although I don’t think the moves will be substantial,” Essaye wrote in emailed commentary on Tuesday.

In terms of AI, while markets aren’t expecting any specific announcements, general agreements on monitoring, use and competition would be positive for the industry, and that clarity could provide an excuse for money to flow back into AI names such as the State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF, the iShares Semiconductor ETF and the Roundhill Memory ETF, he added.
